Introduction to The Codex

Welcome to The Codex, the official rulebook of Equivera! The Codex is designed to be a brief overview of the essential workings of the game - we have written up detailed Guides to cover all the essential systems! If you have any questions or are unsure of something please post in The Chart Shop and we'll be happy to help!

Getting Started

  • Equivera is a location-based sim game which takes place on the fictional continent of Cavara.
  • Before becoming a member please review the Atlas! The Atlas outlines every region and country on the contient. Each region has core disciplines which they specialize in.
  • Once you decide where you would like your homebase to be - head over to the join form!
  • All members begin with a three establishment cap (stables and kennels don't count).
  • The primary currency of Cavara is Crowns (CR) and the active member incentive points is called Laurels (LN).
  • Everyone begins with $200,000 CR upon joining. Crowns are used for nearly everything including the purchase of foundation animals, services, fees, and show entry!
  • Laurel's are earned by being active. Being inactive causes Laurels to decay by 5% for every 30-days of inactivity - 50 Laurels are always protected.
  • We understand that life happens and it can become overwhelming! You can go on Hiatus at anytime. The hiatus option is found on your Account Settings page, we also would appreciate a quick message on th forum so the community is aware that you will be away.
    • Being on official Hiatus prevents Laurels and Prestige from decaying. However, all your current show entries will be withdrawn (and you will be refunded).

Member Conduct

  • Everyone is expected to treat each other with respect. No trolling, harassment, or shaming of any kind will be tolerated.
  • Members may only have one account. Double playing will results in you being banned.

Regions & Countries

  • Regions are groups of countries. Countries contain the locations.
  • Every region is given it's own private (except to admins/global mods) forum on the Community.
  • Countries ground the game and give it a sense of place and of lore. Unlocking potentially unlimited story-telling potential.
  • Like in reality, regions and countries may have a bias towards specific traits.
  • More prestigious nations offer a small point bump.
  • Each region has specific disciplines in which their "known" for and is reflected in a horse/dogs stats when they are imported.

Home Locations

  • Home locations should encourage of sense of commadarie and community.
  • Every citizen of Cavara (you!) chooses a home location upon joining.
  • You may change your home location for the cost of 500 Laurels. However, we discourage the constant changing of home location.

Prestige

  • Prestige equals reputation. All animals, owners, countries, facilities, stables, and kennels have one.
  • Everything has a base prestige.
  • Prestige increases with activity and decreases with inactivity.
  • More prestigious nations award a small point bump when animals place (Top Five) in shows hosted within their borders.
  • Users achieve Milestones based on their level of Prestige. Each Milestone has rewards and grants them privelages.

Animal Ownership & Breeding

  • Importation is our version of creating. Importings costs Crowns.
  • It costs 1500 CR to import a horse and 500 CR to import a dog.
  • Horses must be at least 3 years of age to be bred, and dogs at least 2 years of age.
  • Breeding is handle via the Breeding Hub.
  • Animals are directly tied to a stable/kennel.

Health System

  • All animals begin with full health.
  • Animals must have at least 25 Health Points (HP) to be bred, to compete, and to train.
  • Animals loose a small amount of HPs with each competition, during training, and if they sustain an injury.
  • Injuries can be randomly sustained during training.
  • Animals must visit a Health Facility to heal and regain full health.
  • Animals regain a small amount of health each day which is caped if the animal is currently injured.

Training

  • Foundation "imported" animals are assigned a starting level upon registration. Those that are too young must receive their initial training from an approved Training Center when they are of age.
  • All bred-animals must also receive intial training.
  • When an animal switches disciplines may must be retrained by a Training Center. If their previous discipline is usually cross trained they might be assigned the equivalent starting level in their new discipline, otherwise they begin at the lowest level.

Facilities

  • Any member in good standing may ope a facility.
  • There are four types of facilities:
    • Training - using training facilities boosts an animals stats and therefore their scores. Training centers also provide initial and retraining services. Which disciplines that they offer is up to the owner.
    • Shop - offers retail goods.
    • Health - offers services which affect an animals health.
    • Venue - venues may host competitions. There  are public venues (which are open to the public) and private venues (your use only).
  • All mechanics are integrated and external websites are optional but rewarded with Laurels.
  • All facilities have a location.

Stables & Kennels

  • Stables and kennels are the heart of Cavara.
  • All stables and kennels must have a location (region and country).
  • Upon creation you can customize it by choosing a primary color, an accent color, logo, and banner.
  • Websites are optional for stables and kennels. However they are highly encouraged and you will receive Laurels for doing so. All websites need to have a disclaimer and link back to the game.

Competition

  • The Cavaric Contintental Assembly (CCA) is the governing sports body of Cavara, you can read more about the CCA over at the Atlas!
  • Competion rules, calendar, results, and honor system can be found over at the CCA.
  • Results are tracked via the database, so there is no need to manually track results and add-up points!
